Mike's 03 2.0L AT WRX on the dyno earlier. He's one of our techs at the shop as well. The high line represents a change over to e85 today, low line was on 93 octane last time around. Since the 93 octane tune, Cory upgraded the valve body on the transmission. Today's dyno pulls shows a much stronger car, both power delivery and output. The e85 today was only a base map that I created. Once we tune it next week it should put down some decent power!
Aside from the valve body upgrade, he has parallel fuel rails, adjustable FPR, ID1000s adjusted to 55psi static, big fuel pump, COBB TUNING AP, external wastegate UP, and an FP Red turbo ... See MoreSee Less
James HeadCan't understand why Tolbert would question the bill... It was only twice the estimate, right? Happens all the time.... Yuck, Yuck **If I did not get the facts correct, I certainly apologize.**2 days ago
Devin BerryI'd like to see the receipt and how much the engine and labor cost.. An engine for a Chevy Caprice cost like $1,000-$1,200, so the labor was $2,900 or $2,700? Did it come with multiple blow jobs?2 days ago · 7
Matthew MullinYou guys suck. Have fun counting those coins guys!!! Bet you don't try to rip off any more NFL players hahahahahaha rofl!!!!!!!2 days ago
Dave StefflerAll I can say is you treated my son and I fairly when you tuned our Evo8. The tune made more power with better drivability than another well known Evo shop. The work was completed for the price discussed.

Shaun RobertsonI've heard nothing but great things about the company. I've had numerous people recommend them, not only individual's but also big company's. And when I talked to these guys not only were they friendly and very helpful but yet very reasonably priced. I have yet to make it down there for their work, but most definitely plan on it!!! Keep up the good work guys!!! And hope to get you all's work done.2 days ago · 1

STATEMENT FROM MOTION LAB TUNING - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Motion Lab Tuning has been in business since 2009. Before today, we had a 4.5-star rating on Google, including more than 50 5-star reviews, and an A rating by the Better Business Bureau. We’re proud of the business we have built and appreciate our many loyal and satisfied customers.
The news coverage and social media posts about our dispute with Mike Tolbert have been unfortunate for both parties. We said some things that we should not have, and so did he. For example, contrary to our social posts earlier, Mike never explicitly asked to get anything free or discounted because he was a professional athlete. And we never tried to charge him more “because he is a millionaire” as he has alleged. The dispute grew out of a series of miscommunications.
Mike’s business was referred to us by a third party (Creative Custom Wheel / Eddie). We had almost no direct contact with Mike throughout the entire process, other than one visit to our shop, a phone call, and the situation that happened Monday. We relied on that third-party vendor to communicate with Mike on our behalf. In hindsight, that was a mistake. When problems arose with his job, such as incorrect parts that were supplied to us and delays as a result, we trusted the third party to keep Mike updated. Obviously that did not happen.
Mike paid us in full for what he owed, down to the very last penny. We’re square with him and wish him well with his car, the Panthers season, and whatever else he is involved with in the future. After emotions have settled down, we hope to reach out to him in the spirit of keeping the peace. In the greater scheme of things, there are much more productive ways for adults to spend their time than sniping at each other on social media.
We regret that there were bad feelings and negative publicity for both sides.
Tj TrombatoreI just want to throw this out there. Before I ever decided on a shop to bring my car I did extensive research on all shops near me. Until this recent incident I have never seen a negative review of Motion Lab Tuning (and I dug through every forum I could find). I still have 100% faith in them and feel terrible that someone wants to drag their name through the mud when they've been nothing but completely professional and upfront with me about everything. Just my 2 cents.3 days ago · 12

Alexander Wayne EsverThis bad bad bad damage control.
Employees and whatnot sniping at Tolbert didn't help either. I have no hard feelings against your shop. But man. This was messy all the way around.3 days ago · 8
Kyle EversThis time you left out the fact that contrary to the Fox Sports article this was not some minor work. It was an entire ls3 engine swap where they "supplied the parts". It's hard to put a puzzle together without all the pieces.3 days ago · 6
Gary BakerI would have told him that if they accept his payment in coins they will bill him extra for the time it took to count each coin and make him wait 3 more days for his car.........AND HE COULDNT DO SQUAT ABOUT IT..3 days ago
Michael RitchieIt's crazy that I am hearing random people that have no idea about anything car related bashing you guys. I can't wait to get my car ready to come back to you for a re tune. You guys did awsome work tuning my car originally and will always give you positive rep. Anytime somebody asks me where to get their cars tuned, I always refer them to you. So if anybody else is wondering, motion lab is not a shady company by any means and really, don't believe any of the bs that is being spewed currently.3 days ago · 5
Sha LanettHe only paid in coins; because, the owner said he would not accept a cashier check, he wanted cash. Umm, Mr. Body shop owner incase you don't know a cashier's check mean GUARANTEED funds, the money has ALREADY left a persons account. Perhaps, you need to do your research before, you state it might not clear in time. Well, I hope you lose business for your slick false remarks trying to make yourself look good. I do believe in Karma and I know nothing good will come to your establishment! He (Mike) produced his evidenced and I hope that he sues you for trying to tarnish his reputation. You slandered this mans name and brought his family into this..who does that? By your actions sir, you have proven to society that you're an unprofessional business owner!2 days ago · 4

Dane StaafI think they just wanted media attention. Might be a great business but poor ways of doing things. And refused a cashier's check? Wtf. Why? You just made yourself look bad over a situation that was done and over with.. if he made a bad review, big whoop, that was his experience just like anybody else who made a review. You made it worse by making the comments and story's you have made. And honestly you probably went about that way because he is a known athlete, if it was any one of us who are just your daily customers, you would have not made this as big as it is. I see errors by both parties, but your the business and should have stayed professional about it. Rs 💯💯2 days ago
John David McLelland IIISo...let's review: you didn't finish the job that you said that you would, in the timeframe you quoted it would be done, at the price you originally stated....
Then you refuse to take a personal check from the person who was still willing to pay for work done, even though you didn't finish the job in an extended period of time...
Then he brings you coins, which you clearly deserved. You act like a teenager and commit slander against a customer that you served poorly by sparring in the media because he called you out...
And now you offer a BS apology for "saying things you shouldn't have" while scapegoating and blaming it all on the referring company...
Yeah, I wouldn't come within 100 yards of your shop with my vehicle.2 days ago · 6

Would have been earlier but the warranty company actually wanyed me to take it BACK TO THE SHOP! Lol what a joke... I feel you man2 days ago · 2
Todd DanforthIts unfortunate that one clients bad experience can erase years and hundreds of happy clients experience simply because they have a following. This situation does not change my opinion of your shop. Keep up the good work!2 days ago · 3

Rob SharpTranslation for those who don't like reading long-winded excuses: "Whoops- our bad."2 days ago · 2
Willie DunhamThe part that bothers me about the whole ordeal is this. You charged that man $3900 to INSTALL a motor he provided. On top of that he paid you for a service you did not complete. I know the work wasn't completed because he had to tow the car away. What's worst after the man paid you for a job you never completed you had the audacity to call the police on him. (YOU) by your own admission stated (YOU) said some things you shouldn't have. Not only did you stiff the man, but you also showed poor management skills. You communicated to this man that YOUR company is doing business with through a 3rd party! You do know that you've caused this situation all by yourself. Can't blame him for NOTHING considering how you handled this. I do get what you're doing with this FREE ADVERTISEMENT!! Anyone that doesn't see how you're once again using this man, for your benefit is an Idiot.. Good Luck in the future, because Karma really is a #itch !2 days ago · 4

There has been a lot of publicity today about the disagreement with Mike Tolbert. We regret that the situation turned out the way it did. Motion Lab Tuning will have a more detailed statement to share soon. In the meantime, we welcome your comments -- but please be respectful. Thanks for your patience and understanding. ... Dave DoranThere must be a simple explanation for changing the estimate since it's a pretty normal situation for any shop. I'd bet that given an explanation, the customer whomever they are, would at least know the story. It's not helpful to couch a disagreement in terms of the personality of the peeved client.3 days ago
Abbie Wray LewisOr you could just try to keep it classy & move on.3 days ago · 9
Tommy CampbellWhen a potential customer walks in and wants "free shit" because they whoever. Need to show them the door. A estimate on cost is just that. Some people think a estimate for the job and a price for the job are the same. He was mad because you wouldn't take his check... My employer doesn't take cash. LOL.3 days ago
Karl BrooksI've been in the car business for 15+ years 11 as a tech and 4+ as a advisor and manager combined if I screwed up my estimate (which has never happened because I know math) I would eat it! If I had an additional expense I called the customer and let them know before moving forward! It's shops like yours that give us a bad name in this business shops like yours are why everyone of my first time customers come in to the building in defense mode, but as a fixed operation PROFESSIONAL I make sure when they leave they will never talk bad about my business and will be back for further service! You are on a one way trip out of this business! ✌🏻️✌🏻️✌🏻️3 days ago · 25

Jason DonahueI'll make sure my family in NC comes to your shop. I don't know the whole story, but the uber rich Tolbert making the little guy suffer for taking too long shows me what you had to deal with.3 days ago · 5
Brian Millermy guess is he wanted something simple done when it was almost done he changed his mind and wanted more done and go a little wilder on the build. then with this parts needing ordered and need to come in and in the mean time he wanted more done causing time and money to back up and not make the time line of first estimate even close witch is no fault of there own. more was found to be messed up or needing more attention to with the power he wanted to make with it looking out for him in the long run then hurry up and get it out the door just to come back again for more or bad mouth them after the fact saying they didn't do something right the first time. I'd take my car there no problem3 days ago

Nyron HenryIt is very sad the way this turned out, Ive been in the automotive industry for almost 15 years and is very familiar with the phrase; "the customer is always right." But in this situation I beg to differ. I feel as if Mr. Tolbert was dealing with this situation from start to finish personally, it would not have escalated the way it did, but whenever there is a middle-man present there is bound to be miscommunication and transfer of blame some where along the way. For everyone that is quick to speak negative of this estabishment not knowing the full story should be very ashamed of themselves, I personally had the opportunity once to meet Mr Tolbert and at the time he was very pleased with the quality of work that was being performed and the time frame it was supposed to be completed in, but immediately after that the car basically sat for weeks awaiting an answer from the middle-man to order Parts needed to complete the build. So please refrain from all the negativity towards this business because this situation could have happen to anyone.3 days ago · 5

Tina Goss WilliamsI'm almost 99% sure you deleted most of his fans/family/friends comments on this post. lol it's amusing to think that Mike is being pointed out as the bad guy. i personally know him and his mother and don't believe for 1 second that he did or would have threatened you. That is definitely not his character and his mother did not raise him that way. Most have said after they have commented you have blocked them. Just know I'm ok with that to. I will screen shot my stuff just so I know I said my part. We stand behind Mike Tolbert 110%! Good luck with business guy.3 days ago · 18
Austin ArnoldI have never used your shop personally, but I have friends that have and they have had a great experience. You guys have all great reviews (except for that one) so you're obviously doing something right. It's unfortunate that one customer chose to use his fame to publicly shame a small business over something that sounds fairly petty. Everyone who has ever has their car worked on knows you get an estimate (meaning, that may not be the exact cost) and should also know that parts can be on back order or hard to find, especially for an older vehicle. This obviously wasn't his daily driver so a longer time frame shouldn't have been an issue. He definitely could have handled this in a more understanding and professional manner. I stand by you guys, and as a gal that is a part of a large car community, will definitely keep you guys in mind for future work and recommendations for friends. 👍🏻3 days ago · 4

Ro-Derick Donte' MiddletonBottom line, you all were wrong for attacking Mike Tolbert in a personal manner. You mention that he perhaps wanted free services because of his status and it appears that it's the total opposite. You expected him to shovel out unnecessary money because of his status. Your persistence in trying disgrace him personally is very disturbing to say the least. What makes this even so crazy is that you wouldn't accept payment via check knowing that he was good for it. Just seems silly to me. Now you're on here teying to defend yourself and giving details on what was done to his car. That's not the public's business to know. You might want to pump your brakes. Yes, pun intended.3 days ago · 13
